DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson swimming & diving teams will travel to Athens, Ga., this weekend to compete at the 2013 Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association Swimming & Diving Championship, hosted at Gabrielsen Natatorium at the University of Georgia, Feb. 21-23.
ABOUT THE MEET
The meet will feature two sessions per day, with preliminary swims in the morning followed by the finals in the evening. Fans can follow live results here. Live video will also be available. Florida Gulf Coast returns as the defending champion on the women's side, while the College of Charleston won the men's crown in 2012.
DAVIDSON HISTORY
The men's squad was the runner-up in 2012 after winning the championship in both 2010 and 2011. The women's team finished sixth in 2012 and previously won the event in 2008.
WILDCAT HONORS
Drew Onken will look to three-peat, after earning CCSA Swimmer of the Year honors in 2011 and 2012. The senior is also the defending CCSA Swimmer of the Meet and will look to go for his fourth straight all-conference honor. Onken previously won Most Outstanding Freshman in 2010, as did teammate Dylan Ludwick in 2012. The Wildcats have taken home Most Outstanding Freshman honors three of the last four seasons and Swimmer of the Meet the last two years in a row.
DIVERS QUALIFY FOR ZONES
Davidson divers Kaliya Burton-Akright and Karen Monuszko will look to capitalize on the outstanding seasons they've had thus far at the championship meet. Both set personal bests this season, with Monuszko breaking the program mark in the 3-meter event at the CCSA Duals only to have Burton-Akright set a new mark soon after at Clemson. Both divers have qualified for the NCAA Zone Meet.
