DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Davidson men's tennis team ran its winning streak to six in a row with a 6-0 blanking of visiting Belmont Abbey on Wednesday evening at the Knobloch Tennis Center.
 
Davidson ran its record to 6-1, the best start since 2003 when the Wildcats won five of their first six matches to open the year.
 
The 'Cats played a 5-to-1 format, playing just one doubles match and five singles matches. They opened the match with a 6-0, 6-1 doubles win behind Chris Mark and Kevin Moore. The duo ran their record to 5-1, winning their fifth straight since an opening season defeat to No. 60 Clemson.
 
Davidson allowed just 11 games scored on it in singles action as the Wildcats rolled to straight-set wins in all five slots. Nicky Kunz won his third straight with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 1.
 
Senior Joe Schafer continued his winning ways with a shutout of Tom Wigley at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-0. The senior improved to 5-1, pushing his win streak to five in a row.
 
Connor Evins and Alex Howard each won their third straight match in a row with 6-1, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-1 decision at No. 3 and 4.
 
Roger Irigoyen Berlanga closed out the match with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Gabriel Trombini at No. 5.
 
Davidson will take to the road for the first time this year, playing at UNC Wilmington (Mar. 2) and Coastal Carolina (Mar. 3) to open the month of March.
