DAVIDSON, N.C. – On the strength of her first career triple-double, Sophia Aleksandravicius picked up her third Southern Conference Player of the Week honor this year for games played from Feb. 12-18, as announced by the league office today.
The senior led Davidson to wins at home against Furman (71-49) and Wofford (67-54) by averaging 23 points, 9.5 rebounds and shooting a blistering 69.6 percent on 16-of-23 shooting, while blocking 13 shots (6.5 per game).
She started the week off with a game for the record books, registering the program's first unofficial triple-double on 20 points, 10 rebounds and a new single-game record 10 blocks in Davidson's 22-point win over Furman on Saturday, Feb. 16.
Aleksandravicius followed that memorable game with a 26-point, nine-rebound effort Monday night against the Terriers. The senior, who got into foul trouble in the first half, scored 20 of her game-high 26 points in the second half and picked up three blocks. The forward finished the night hitting a season-best 11-of-13 shots to go with a 4-for-4 showing at the charity stripe.
Aleksandravicius is averaging team bests of 15.6 points and 9.9 rebounds, which is tops in the league. She also has a SoCon-best 73 blocks and ranks tenth in the nation with an average of 2.92 per game.
The two 20-point outings this week gave Aleksandravicius five for the season and 23 for her career. She has scored in double digits in 21 of Davidson's 25 games and recorded 12 double-doubles to push her career total to 42.
Aleksandravicius has won the league weekly award twice already this season, Jan. 8 & Jan. 29, and five times overall in her career. She is also a three-time SoCon Player of the Month winner, including this year's January player of the month.
Davidson (16-9, 13-2 SoCon), which has won 12 of its last 14 games, will continue its stretch of five games in 10 days with a 7 p.m. tip at UNCG Wednesday evening.
