DAVIDSON, N.C. – Sophomore Kevin Birmingham scored a rare overtime win by fall to give Davidson an early lead, but Campbell claimed six of the seven remaining matches for a 40-12 Southern Conference wrestling victory over the Wildcats, Thursday night in Belk Arena.

Birmingham's dramatic victory put Davidson (6-11, 1-5 SoCon) ahead, 9-5, as he broke an 8-8 deadlock at 149 pounds with just six seconds remaining in the first sudden victory period by putting Brent Jorge straight onto his back for three bonus points. Sophomore Anthony Elias opened the contest at 133 pounds with a 10-5 decision and junior Scott Patrick battled to a 3-0 decision at 184 pounds for the Wildcats' other victories.

Campbell (6-7, 5-1 SoCon) quickly regained the lead following Birmingham's victory as Nick Rex scored a technical fall at 157 pounds for a 10-9 advantage. Paul Duggan (165 pounds) and Taylor McGiffen (174) then earned back-to-back pins for a 22-9 advantage. Patrick won at 184 for Davidson, but the Wildcats had to forfeit at 197 and 125, and Joe Nolan won by fall at heavyweight in 1:25.

The Wildcats will host a tri-meet Sunday that will feature Ohio Northern and NC State before concluding the regular season the following Sunday by hosting league-foe Appalachian State. NC State and Ohio Northern will start the tri-meet at 1 p.m., and Davidson will then face Ohio Northern at 2:30 p.m. The Wolfpack and Wildcats will square-off 10 minutes after the conclusion of the prior match.
