45-Year-Old School Record Falls In Track Opener

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – An event victory for Patrick Rollo and a record-breaking performance by #Charles Rappé# led the Davidson men's track and field team in the indoor season opener Saturday in the JDL College Kick-Off Classic in the JDL Fast Track.
Rollo led a trio of Wildcats in the top five of the 1000-meter run with a Davidson all-time top-10 time of 2 minutes, 33.31 seconds. Will McDuffie followed in third place, also posting a school top-10 time of 2:36.04. Wesley Laytham joined Davidson's top-10 performers list in the event in 2:36.16 to place fourth.
Rappé completed the 300-meter dash in 36.65 seconds to best the previous school record of 36.93 (converted from 36.9 seconds on a 330-yard course) set by Whit Morrow in 1968. Nate Faubion also just bested the mark, finishing in 36.92 seconds. Greg Sargent also broke onto Davidson's top-10 performers list in the event in 38.90.
Additional highlights came from Walker Mogen and Michael Lorentsen, who posted top-five finishes in their respective events. Mogen placed third in the 3000-meter run in 8:51.88, while Lorentsen cleared 14 feet, 5 ¼ inches (4.40 meters) in the pole vault to place fourth. Lorentsen now owns the top-four pole vault marks in school history.
Stewart Dalton surpassed his personal best in the 60-meter dash (7.24 seconds), while Xzavier Killings matched his personal record in the high jump clearing 6-2 (1.88m).
The Wildcats will return to action next month at the Niswonger Foundation Invitational hosted by East Tennessee State Jan. 17-18.
