Final Results
PINEHURST, N.C. – Davidson head golf coach Tim Straub teamed with Wake Forest coach Jerry Haas to capture the 2013 AHEAD / E-Z-GO CPGA Pro-Pro Championship Thursday afternoon at Pinehurst Country Club.
Both Demon Deacon alums, Straub (1989) and Haas (1985) finished the 54-hole tournament at 25-under par and defeated the duo of Kelly Mitchum and Gus Ulrich on the first playoff hole, thanks to a Straub birdie to claim their second title in the last four years.
The 62nd annual event was contested over three days, three courses and three different scoring formats. In round one, the 103 teams/206 competitors competed in Captain's Choice, followed by Alternate Shot Tuesday and Four-Ball Stroke Play in the final round.
After firing a 12-under 59 on day one, Straub and Haas posted scores of 67 and 64 in rounds two and three, respectively.
Now in his 14th season at the helm, Straub led Davidson to a second-place finish in the 2013 Southern Conference Championship, the school's best showing in 40 years.
Davidson, which finished the fall with a pair of Top-5 finishes, will enjoy a four-month break from tournament action before opening its spring slate at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate Feb. 17-18 in Mobile, Ala.
