DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson College family is mourning the loss of assistant women's track & field coach Paul Taylor, who passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, November 28, in Charlotte.
"I'm so sorry for the loss of a committed colleague and friend we all shared," said Director of Athletics Jim Murphy. "Our thoughts and prayers are with Paul's family members and friends during this difficult time."
Taylor was in his third season as an assistant to head coach Jen Straub. He was an integral part of the recruiting process for the Wildcats and helped the squad make numerous improvements during his time at Davidson. Prior to joining the staff of the women's programs in 2011-12, Taylor spent four seasons as a volunteer assistant with the men's track & field programs.
A native of Johnson City, Tenn., Taylor was a member of the nationally-ranked track and cross country teams at Kansas State. He was a four-time All-Big Eight honoree who earned a Bachelor of Science in Communications in 1985.
"The team and I are shocked and heartbroken," said Straub. "We will honor his memory by sticking together and continuing to work hard this spring."
A memorial service will be held December 14 at 2 p.m. in the Lingle Chapel on the Davidson campus.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the following:
