Derochie Earns Record Sixth SoCon Honor

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – In addition to setting her own personal records on the court Davidson setter Mikayla Derochie has set a new Southern Conference record, earning a record sixth Freshman of the Week accolade as announced by the league Monday.
In helping the Wildcats to a split of weekend action, Derochie assisted on 85 kills to average 12.14 assists per set. She finished with 32 assists in Davidson's 3-0 loss to Samford, tying her second-best output for a three-set match. Derochie went on to tie her career high with 53 assists in the team's 3-1 win at Chattanooga – her best effort in a four-set match this season. She also ended the game with 10 digs in recording her seventh double-double of the season and hit .273 on the weekend.
Derochie's sixth rookie honor tops the previous SoCon record of five, set by Furman's Jo Wilks in 2012. She previously earned the honor five consecutive weeks, from Sept. 16 to Oct. 14.
The Wildcats will finish out their home schedule this weekend when they host a pair of SoCon matches. Friday evening The Citadel travels to Belk Arena for a 7 p.m. contest before the Cats welcome Georgia Southern to town Saturday afternoon in the team's annual Senior Day at 2 p.m.
