DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson wrestling team will open its 2013-14 home slate this Sunday with a four-team match featuring No. 10 Ohio State, George Mason and Anderson with a 1 p.m. start time at Belk Arena.
TIMELINE
Davidson will start the event with a 1 p.m. match vs. Ohio State. Simultaneously, Anderson will face George Mason. At approximately 2 p.m., the Wildcats will face the Trojans while the Buckeyes and Patriots will meet. At 4 p.m., Davidson will finish things off vs. George Mason. (Please note – only the Davidson matches will have live results.
HISTORY
This season marks just the second-ever meeting between the Buckeyes and the Wildcats, who first squared off last season at Belk Arena before a crowd of over 1,000 spectators. OSU took a 40-3 victory from Davidson, though then-sophomore Ian Solcz took a 4-3 decision at 174-pounds.
The 'Cats have faced Anderson 16 times prior to this weekend since the first-ever match between the two in 1991-92. Davidson's 39-12 victory last season in South Carolina gives them a slim 8-7-1 series lead. Philip Elias and Ed Isola each won by fall at 133- and 285-pounds, respectively, while Scott Patrick won by technical fall, 15-0, at 184-pounds.
The Patriots and the Wildcats have met twice before, with the first-ever meeting coming in 2005-06. Last time out for the two, George Mason took a 34-9 victory in Fairfax, Va., in January of 2012 to even the all-time series at 1-1. Anthony Elias and Solcz led the way for the 'Cats with a pair of decisions.
LAST TIME OUT
Kevin Birmingham and Scott Patrick picked up top-8 finishes at the Wolfpack Open last weekend in Raleigh. Birmingham went 5-1 with four pins, including one of No. 16 Alexander Richardson of Old Dominion, to finish as the runner-up at 149-pounds. Patrick bounced back from a quarterfinal loss to take fifth place at 184-pounds, going 4-1 with a pair of major decisions and a pin.

Four different Davidson wrestlers rank in the top-25 in their respective weight classes according to WrestlingReport.com. Philip Elias is tied for 25th in the NCAA at 125-pounds, while Anthony Elias is tied for 25th at 133-pounds. Kevin Birmingham is tied for 25th at 149-pounds and Scott Patrick is 22nd at 184-pounds.
