Brown, Derochie Earn SoCon Honors

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Davidson senior outside hitter Caroline Brown was named to the Southern Conference All-Conference Second Team and freshman setter Mikayla Derochie earned SoCon All-Freshman Team honors for their performances during the 2013 season as announced by the league Wednesday morning.
It marks the third consecutive season Brown has earned second team honors, as she previously did so in 2011 and 2012. In her senior campaign, she led the Wildcats with 3.21 kills per set and was second on the team in digs at 3.70 per set. Brown ranks eighth all-time in program history with 1,260 career kills and is ninth with 1,248 digs. She is one of just a few Davidson players to eclipse both 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs, and also ranks eighth with 124 career aces.
A six-time SoCon Freshman of the Week honoree, Derochie finished her freshman season ranked seventh in Davidson history in single-season assists with 1,214. A starter from day one, she ranked seventh in the SoCon with 10.12 assists per set. Derochie hit .303 on the season and was second on the team with 12 service aces. She finished with 74 kills and averaged 1.77 digs per set while ranking fourth on the team in blocks with 69.
Samford's Michaela Reesor was named the SoCon Player of the Year, while teammate Chelsi Carter claimed Libero of the Year accolades. Furman's Ashton Gregory was named the Freshman of the Year and Paladin coach Michelle Young earned Coach of the Year.
The 2013 season marked the final year in the Southern Conference for the Wildcats, who depart for the Atlantic 10 in July 2014.
