Sviderskiy and Pragnell Earn All-Conference Honors

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Valeriy Sviderskiy of the Davidson men's soccer team has been named first-team all-conference, while teammate Max Pragnell was selected to the Southern Conference all-freshman squad, as announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon.
"We are super excited for Valeriy and Maxi for this honor, as it underlines their quality and the respect from the other coaching staffs," said Davidson head coach Matt Spear. "It also highlights the combination that they bring to our team as a dynamic duo. I look forward to the soccer they will create together for two more years."
A native of Richmond, Va., Sviderskiy led the conference in game-winning goals with four, while ranking fourth with eight strikes and fifth in total points with 16.
The first Wildcat sophomore to earn first-team honors since Alex Caskey '11, Sviderskiy capped the 2013 regular season in impressive fashion netting golden goals in victories over Virginia Tech and Appalachian State at Alumni Stadium.
In addition to game-winners against Campbell and Georgia Southern, Sviderskiy found the back of the net twice against Duke, the second multiple-goal game of his brief career.
"Val scored some big goals this season, and he especially relishes special moments to win games late in tight matches. That is a trend you want in strikers – the desire, capability and poise at critical moments. For Val, the expression "he enjoys his football" is an important ingredient. As much as he wants to keep growing as a player – and I know there are even more goals and broader impact to his game to come – he has the right balance of composure and feel."
Just the second all-freshman selection for Davidson in the last five years, Pragnell led the club in assists with six, while finishing behind Sviderskiy with 10 total points. The Kingston, Jamaica product also ranked tied for third on the club with a pair of goals.
Pragnell couldn't have asked for a better start to his collegiate career recording three assists and a game-winning strike in his first three contests. Four of the forward's set ups came either on game-tying or game-winning goals.
"Maxi was a revelation, because for as much as coaches want freshmen to impact the team straightaway, it's not always a realistic expectation as there is an adjustment to the college game, new team, academic rigor, and campus life. Maxi has lived away from home in another country for a few years, as a Jamaican resident attending school in England. A crucial quality that Maxi brings to the match is his work rate. He gives everything in terms of desire and running. And then you add a great first touch, dribbling prowess, and the ability to combine with teammates. He craved more goals – those will come – but his assists and other parts of his arsenal have already accelerated the program."
