Dukes’ Double-Double Leads ‘Cats to Exhibition Win, 80-50

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Dakota Dukes led four Wildcats in double figures with a double-double on the strength of 26 points and 14 rebounds, and Davidson cruised to an 80-50 exhibition win at John M. Belk Arena against Johnson C. Smith Tuesday evening in women's basketball.
Dukes went 10-for-14 from the field and 6-of-8 from the charity stripe to lead all scorers. Laura Murray followed with 18 points, while Lillian McCabe and Melanie Ransom each chipped in 13 points apiece.
Johnson C. Smith was paced by Chelsea Faulhaber's nine points and seven rebounds, while four other Golden Bulls had six points each. Ashley Porter came off the bench for a team-high eight rebounds.
Davidson, which canned nine triples in the game, used four of them early to grab a 19-9 advantage with 11:20 on the clock. Murray and Hannah Early each hit two of the four three-pointers. Early had eight points, seven boards and a team-best six assists.
After the Golden Bulls cut their deficit to three (19-16) a few minutes later, the 'Cats ran off a 17-7 run capped off by a Dukes' put-back off her own miss shot for a 36-23 lead with under two to go in the half. The sophomore tallied her double-double on the play.
Up 39-25 after the first half, Murray pushed the advantage out to 20 (51-31) on back-to-back jumpers fives minutes into the new half. The lead would grow to as many as 32 points (78-46) on a Ransom layup with 2:12 left in the game.
Davidson shot 54.8 percent in the second half, outscoring Johnson C. Smith 41-25. The Wildcats overall finished shooting 43.3 percent for the game, assisting on 22 of their 29 field goals on the night.
Led by Dukes' 14 rebounds, Davidson held a 45-38 edge on the boards and scored 38 of its 80 points in the paint.
Davidson will now begin the 2013-14 regular season campaign on the road at Clemson next Friday, Nov. 8. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
