
Derochie Makes it Five Straight SoCon Honors

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – For a league-record fifth straight week, Davidson's Mikayla Derochie was named the Southern Conference Freshman Volleyball Player of the Week as announced by the conference Monday afternoon. The honor was for games played Oct. 8-13.
The freshman setter led the Wildcats with 10.36 assists per set, hitting .600 or better in each match with no errors. She had 30 assists, seven digs and three kills in the Wildcats' match at Gardner-Webb before posting 36 assists, 12 digs and six block assists while hitting .800 vs. Samford. Derochie then closed out the weekend with 48 assists, 11 digs, five kills and a pair of blocks to lead Davidson to a 3-1 win over SoCon foe Chattanooga. Her pair of double-doubles gives her four on the season, while her 48 assists are a season-best performance in a four-set match.
Davidson hits the road for a pair of league contests later in the week. The Cats will take on Furman in a 7 p.m. tilt Friday evening in Greenville before heading to Spartanburg Saturday afternoon for a 2 p.m. match at Wofford.
