Swimming & Diving Splits with Queens, Women Fall to No. 18 Arkansas

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson women's swimming & diving team defeated Queens University of Charlotte and fell to the 18th-ranked University of Arkansas, while Drew Onken posted a pair of victories as the men's squad fell to Queens on Saturday afternoon at Cannon Pool.
The Wildcat women defeated the Royals of Queens by a score of 183-108 before falling to the No. 18 Razorbacks 194-96. The men's team fell to Queens 163-121.
The women's 400-yard medley relay of Angie Healy, Emma Tobey, Jessica Miller and Caroline Vrana took fourth place overall (second vs. Queens) in a time of 4:02.36 behind an Arkansas team that set a new pool record.
Anna Blair Bullock and Allison Cottle took second and third vs. Queens (fourth and fifth overall), respectively, in the 1000-yard freestyle. Bullock clocked in at 10:53.12, while Cottle touched in 11:01.33. Healy and Miller followed that up by finishing back-to-back in the 200-yard free, with Healy taking sixth in 1:57.25 and Miller finishing seventh in 1:57.76.
Fellow freshman Lauren Malachowski picked up a second place overall finish, getting the win vs. the Royals in the 100-yard backstroke. She swam a 1:00.08 to pick up points for the 'Cats.
Vrana also grabbed an overall runner-up finish (taking first vs. Queens), swimming one of her best dual meet times in the 100-yard breaststroke with a 1:07.60. She was closely followed by teammate Meredith Nakano, who placed second (third overall) in a time of 1:07.63.
Freshman Emily Covert swam a 2:10.22 in the 200-yard butterfly for the win vs. Queens (third place overall). Kelsi Hobbs clocked in at 2:10.51 to take second (fifth overall) in the event. In the 50-yard freestyle, Jean DeOrnellas was the Wildcats' leader, taking second vs. Queens (fifth place overall) with a 25.13. DeOrnellas would also lead the 'Cats in the 100-free, taking first against the Royals (fifth overall) in that event as well with a 54.49. She was followed by Malachowski in second (sixth overall) with a time of 54.54.
Hobbs led Davidson in the 200-yard backstroke, taking fifth overall and second vs. Queens in the event with a 2:12.79. Healy was a close third (sixth overall); swimming a time of 2:13.42 while Zoe Wuckovich took fourth (seventh overall) in 2:16.46.
After grabbing third overall (second vs. Queens) in the 100-yard event, Nakano repeated her feat in the 200-yard breaststroke taking third place overall and getting the win against the Royals in a time of 2:27.72. Vrana was second (fifth) fifth in 2:30.63. Nakano would later swim a 58.11 in the 100-yard butterfly to take home first place points for the 'Cats. Tobey was close behind with a 1:00.69.
Bullock picked up second place points for the 'Cats in the 500-yard freestyle, swimming a time of 5:15.88. Lillie Seifart was fourth, touching the pads in 5:21.05.
Covert would take second in the 200-yard IM, touching in 2:16.31. She was followed by Francesca Devine in third place.
Kaliya Burton-Akright finished third in the 3-meter diving event, finishing with 277.77 points. She would also take fifth in the 1-meter.
The women wrapped up the meet with a third-place finish in the 200-yard free relay. The “A” team of Vrana, Malachowski, Healy and DeOrnellas swam a time of 1:39.73.
For the men, the quartet of Brandon Kegley, Ethan Levinson, Onken and Will Fox grabbed second in the 400-yard medley relay, touching the pads in 3:31.01.
Ben Stewart-Bates swam a 1:47.41 in the 200-yard freestyle to out-touch Kegley for third place in the event. Kegley swam a 1:47.79 for fourth place.
Levinson grabbed the runner-up spot in the 100-yard backstroke, swimming a 54.57. Luke Burton was close behind in third, clocking in at 54.80.
The Wildcats went two-three-four in the 100-yard breaststroke, led by Onken in second place with a time of 58.03. Spencer Gill touched third with a 1:00.68, while Grant Smith finished fourth with a mark of 1:01.19.
Fox picked up the win in the 100-yard butterfly for the Wildcats, swimming a 1:55.57. Thomas Bigham placed fifth in the event in a time of 2:01.57.
In the 50-yard free, Wills Cooper took the runner up spot in 21.76. Cameron Bard touched fourth in 22.52.
Kegley swam to a third place finish in the 100-yard free, finishing in a time of 48.36. Burton and Stewart-Bates took fourth and fifth, respectively. Burton touched the pads in 49.50, while Stewart-Bates clocked in at 49.62.
Levinson added a third place finish in the 200-yard backstroke, clocking in at 1:58.40. Josh Schammel and Adam Hunter followed in fourth and fifth, respectively. Schammel touched in 1:59.16 while Hunter hit the wall in 1:59.75.
Onken added a win in the 200-yard breaststroke, finishing in 2:07.16. He would later add another first place finish in the 200-yard IM, swimming a time of 1:54.80.
Dylan Ludwick claimed second in the 500-yard freestyle, clocking in at 4:47.15. Fox also added a runner-up finish, touching the wall in 52.00 in the 100-yard butterfly.
In the diving events, Keiran Lenahan took first in the 1-meter event, finishing with 124.50 points. He was followed by Jonathan Oberti in second with 119.02.
The men's relays took second-third-fourth in the 400-yard free relay to close out the meet. The quartet of Cooper, Bard, Burton and Kegley led the way for the 'Cats, taking second with a 1:25.43.
Both squads will be back in action next weekend when they travel to Boiling Spring, N.C., to face CCSA- foe Gardner-Webb in a 1 p.m. meet.

Kegley swam to a third place finish in the 100-yard free, finishing in a time of 48.36. Burton and Stewart-Bates took fourth and fifth, respectively. Burton touched the pads in 49.50, while Stewart-Bates clocked in at 49.62.
Levinson added a third place finish in the 200-yard backstroke, clocking in at 1:58.40. Josh Schammel and Adam Hunter followed in fourth and fifth, respectively. Schammel touched in 1:59.16 while Hunter hit the wall in 1:59.75.
Onken added a win in the 200-yard breaststroke, finishing in 2:07.16. He would later add another first place finish in the 200-yard IM, swimming a time of 1:54.80.
Dylan Ludwick claimed second in the 500-yard freestyle, clocking in at 4:47.15. Fox also added a runner-up finish, touching the wall in 52.00 in the 100-yard butterfly.
