Echikson Leads Men’s Golf on Day One of Mason Rudolph Championship

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Samuel Echikson fired a one-under 70 to lead the Davidson men's golf team on day one of the 2012 Mason Rudolph Championship hosted by Vanderbilt.
The 54-hole event is being played on the Par 71, 7,100-yard Legends Club South Course layout.
After a triple-bogey seven on his opening hole, Echikson played his remaining 17 holes in four-under and will enter the second round in a tie for 10th, just three shots off the pace.
As a team, the Wildcats are currently tied for eighth, just seven strokes out of second place following a season-low 292 (+8).
Freshman David Sargent recorded the lowest round of his brief collegiate career with a two-over 73. Todd Eckstein is a stroke behind Sargent, while Richard Fountain and John Skeadas III each carded 75.
Virginia's Denny McCarthy is the individual leader following a 67 (-4), while Oklahoma holds the top spot on the team leaderboard after recording a 280 (-4).
Round two of the three-day event will begin tomorrow morning at 8 a.m.
