Fountain Climbs Leaderboard; Golf Sits 7th at The Invitational at the Ocean Course

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – Led by Richard Fountain's even-par 72, the Davidson men's golf team sits in 7th place following Monday's second round of The Invitational at the Ocean Course, site of the 2012 PGA Championship.
After carding a 76 in the opening round, Fountain birdied four of his first 10 holes this morning to move into the Top-5 on the individual leaderboard. The junior gave a few strokes back on his inward nine before finishing the day in a tie for 8th out of 96 competitors.
Samuel Echikson backed yesterday's 77 with a two-over 74 and will enter the final round tied for 20th, while Todd Eckstein is tied for 36th following a 79. Also competing for the Wildcats are John Skeadas III (T-44th), David Sargent (T-44th) and Alex Nianouris (T-59th).
As a team, Davidson (306-301 = 607) improved on Sunday's round by five strokes and will enter the final 18 holes just 10 shots out of second place, currently held by Houston.
Florida, which entered the second round with a four-shot advantage, stretched its lead to a commanding 20 strokes with an even-par round of 288.
Scott Wolfes of Georgia Southern fired a tournament-low 67 (-5) to grab a two shot lead over the Gators' Tyler McCumber, who sits at two-under 142 (72-70).
The 2012 field of teams includes: Akron, College of Charleston, South Florida, USC Aiken, Mercer, Houston, Florida, UAB, SFA, Georgia Southern, UTA, USC Upstate, Davidson, St. Johns and Texas State.
Hosted by College of Charleston, tomorrow's final round will begin at 7:30 a.m. Live scoring for the tournament will be available via golfstat.com.
