8/6/2012 10:40:00 AM | Men's Soccer
SEATTLE - Davidson men's soccer alumnus Alex Caskey '11 scored his first career goal in an MLS game Sunday night, contributing to 4-0 victory for the Seattle Sounders over the LA Galaxy squad in front of over 60,000 fans and a live TV audience on ESPN2.
"Davidson soccer is so proud of Alex," said Davidson head coach Matt Spear. "He's had an incredible first season in Major League Soccer. To score his first goal in league play vs. a star-studded Galaxy team in front of 60,000 is amazing. What has impressed me the most is Alex's confidence and immediate, uncanny ability to transition to the speed of soccer at America's highest level."
A native of Dunwoody, Ga, Caskey was originally selected by Seattle in the third round (47th overall) of the 2011 MLS SuperDraft to become the earliest selected player from Davidson. A two-year team captain for the Wildcats, Caskey was a three-time All-Southern Conference first team selection and a two-time NSCAA All-South Region second-team selection. He finished his Davidson career following the 2010 season with 19 goals and 15 assists for 53 points, and did not miss a single match, starting all 76.
Sunday's match was Caskey's 10th start for the Sounders in MLS matches. The Galaxy, the defending MLS Champions, boasted the likes of Landon Donovan, David Beckham and Robbie Keane.
