DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson men's and women's swim teams have both been honored by the College Swimming Coaches Associate of America for their work in the classroom during the 2012 season, earning Scholar All-America Team Honors as announced by the organization this week.
To be eligible for the CSCAA Scholar All-America Team Award, programs must achieve team grade-point averages of 3.0 or higher. The award is presented to teams who meet the requirements in the fall semester as well as the semester of the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships (winter/spring).
The men's squad boasts a team grade-point average of 3.12, ranking them 43rd overall in NCAA Division I. Yale University finished 2012 with the highest GPA at 3.62 and was followed closely by Eastern Illinois (3.55) and Harvard University (3.54).
The Wildcat women finished the spring semester with a team GPA of 3.35. Clemson and Alabama ended the academic year with the nation's highest GPAs of 3.62, followed by Northwestern at 3.59.
"That our teams continue to perform at this level in the classroom is a fantastic achievement,” says head coach John Young. “I am impressed not only by the skills in time management and prioritization that our student-athletes exhibit, but also by the support and understanding that these teammates extend to one another. Navigating the academic rigor at Davidson can prove challenging even without an athletic commitment. I am thankful that our student-athletes take their academic aspirations so seriously, and consistently achieve at a level that brings pride to their teammates, coaches, and community."
