Class of 2016 for Women's Basketball Finishes Senior Prep Season Strong

DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Class of 2016 for the Davidson women's basketball program wrapped up successful senior prep seasons as Alexandra Long and Dakota Dukes each finished their final senior years this past winter and will gear up for their first season with the Wildcats during the 2012-13 season.
The 5-10 Long, a guard from Great Falls, Va., averaged 16 points a game as she led Flint Hill School with 490 points. In addition, she had team bests in assists (82), rebounds (197) and blocks (54), while leading the team to its third straight year of 20 wins and a third consecutive Virginia State Final Four appearance.
Long's 60 three-pointers ranked ninth on the Washington Post All-Metro leaderboard and she was a Washington Post All-Metro honorable mention for the second year in a row. A team captain for the second straight season, Long was named to both the all-state and all-league first teams, the third time on the all-league squad, and also participated in the Buffalo Wild Wings Roundball Senior All-Star Classic.
Dukes averaged a double-double her senior prep campaign, pouring in 18.5 points and pulling down 13 boards a contest. In addition, the six-foot forward pocketed nearly four steals, dished out two assists and block two shots per game. She finished with over 2,200 points during her four-year prep career and was five rebounds short of 1,450.
The Raleigh, N.C., native was named conference player of the year for the fourth time and earned a spot on the all-conference team, also the fourth year in a row she made the team. A four-time all-state honoree, Dukes was named her conference's tournament MVP for the fourth time this past season. In January, she was named by the Charlotte Observer as the 10th-best basketball player in North Carolina for all seniors.
In her senior campaign, Dukes was named to the all-tournament teams for the Village Christian Tip-Off Tournament and the HighSchoolOT.com Holiday Invitational. She was also honored by the Raleigh Sports Club on Nov. 30 as Student-Athlete of the Week for her outstanding performance in the classroom and on the basketball court.
SoCon Coach of the Year Michele Savage led the Wildcats to the second-most wins in program history as they closed out the 2011-12 season with a 22-10 mark and earned an automatic bid in the Women's NIT. They finished tied for first in the Southern Conference with a 17-3 record and earned the program's first regular season conference title.
