RICHMOND, Va. – The Davidson baseball team earned a “Team of the Week” honorable mention from CollegeBaseballInsider.com, the publication announced Tuesday, after going 3-1 last week with a pair of dramatic wins over Elon.
The Wildcats (7-10, 2-4 SoCon) led off a list of 10 honorable mentions recognized by CollegeBaseballInsider.com, which also selects one “Team of the Week,” four regional teams of the week.
Senior Jake Berman's two-out, walk-off hit in the 11th inning Sunday gave Davidson its second consecutive come-from-behind, extra inning victory over Elon, 9-8. Senior centerfielder Drew Gadaire had a two-out, walk-off base hit in the 11th inning Saturday in the second game of a doubleheader to give Davidson a 12-11 victory over the Phoenix.
On Sunday, Davidson trailed 8-7 entering the bottom of the 11th inning after surrendering an RBI-single in the top half. Junior shortstop Michael Zeblo drove in the tying run with a single to left field, and Berman, who went 3-for-6 on the day, stepped up to the plate with two outs and lifted a pitch just over the left fielder's glove to end the game.
LHP Dylan Clark held Davidson in check Saturday in the first game of the day as Elon took a 10-2 victory, but Davidson answered in the second game. Trailing 11-9, the 'Cats were able to score three runs on a two-RBI double by pinch hitter Daniel Gerow and Gadaire's walk-off single. Gadaire completed the comeback by slapping a pitch into shallow right field to score Gerow and end the game.
Davidson began the week with a rain delayed 12-3 win at home over N.C. Central Tuesday, Mar. 13.
Davidson will travel to Durham Tuesday for a 6 p.m. game against NC Central, and will then head south to take on College of Charleston in a three-game Southern Conference series beginning Friday evening at 6 p.m.
