MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Up five goals, Davidson was unable to hold off a charging Robert Morris team which comeback in the last 12 minutes to tie the game and then added a single goal in overtime for a 13-12 win over the Wildcats on Saturday afternoon in women's lacrosse action.
After Emily Rademacher capped off a 5-0 run in the early goings of the second half with her fourth goal of the season, the Colonials (2-6) scored five straight unanswered goals in the last 11:17 to force overtime at 12-all. Talia Waskowicz and MacKenzie Lawler brought the Colonials back from the 12-7 deficit by scoring all five goals, with Waskowicz netting three of them.
Then with just 43 seconds left in overtime, RMU's Erin Mossop sent her team to the win with the winning goal.
Davidson (3-5), which had leads of two, three and five, was led by the duo of Ann Fucigna and Emily Cooke with three goals each. Alanna Parker netted two, while four other Wildcats had single goals. Fucigna was one of five players to tally an assist as her four points were a season-high this year.
Diane Girling had a strong game defensively with two groundballs, two caused turnovers and three draw controls. Paige Logan tallied a season-best four groundballs, while Parker had a team-high four draw controls.
Abigail Doelger picked up two groundballs and two caused turnovers.
Robert Morris' Waskowicz finished with five goals on the afternoon and added an assist for five points. MacKenzie Lawler and Mossop each added two goals apiece.
Tied at 3-3 with 10:33 left in the first half, Erin Doherty and Erin Keitel hooked up to start a 3-0 run and Davidson was up 6-3 after 23 minutes of play.
Robert Morris cut the lead to two at the break, 7-5, and then tied it up again at 7-all with a pair of goals to open the new stanza.
Davidson then got on a roll when they scored five straight goals over a four-minute stretch for a 12-7 lead at the 20:42 mark. Fucigna and Parker scored twice each during the spurt. Rober Morris though held the Wildcats to just three shots the remainder of the half, while starting their comeback.
Jessica Melby closed with 11 saves between the pipes.
The stats were fairly even across the board in shots (31 Davidson-32), groundballs (18-21) and draw controls (14-15), but Davidson was just 10-for-17 on clear attempts and had 19 turnovers for the game.
The Wildcats will look to regroup as they return home for their first National Lacrosse Conference game of the season. They will host Presbyterian Saturday, March 24, at 1 p.m.
