Fountain Named SoCon Men's Golfer of the Month

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Davidson sophomore Richard Fountain did not finish outside the top five in two February tournaments, earning Southern Conference Men's Golfer of the Month honors, the league office announced Tuesday.
The 2011 Southern Conference champion started the 2012 spring season with a pair of top-five finishes at the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate on Hilton Head Island, S.C., and the Seahawk Intercollegiate in Wilmington, N.C. In Hilton Head, Fountain shot a three-round 222 (+6) to tie Furman's Matt Broome as the top SoCon finisher in the event. The following week, he placed fourth at the Seahawk Intercollegiate at three-under par (213). Fountain was the top SoCon finisher in the tournament, which featured six top-100 ranked teams.
Fountain earned SoCon Golfer of the Week honors after both tournaments. He is off to a good start in March, placing second at the Samford Intercollegiate, March 5-6.
The Wildcats will next compete Mar. 31- Apr. 1 when they co-host the Irish Creek Collegiate at the Irish Creek Country Club in nearby Kannapolis.
