Fountain Shares SoCon Men’s Golfer of the Week Honors

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Davidson sophomore Richard Fountain and Furman senior Matt Broome were selected as the Southern Conference Men's Golfers of the Week Wednesday after carding identical scores at the Wexford Plantation Intercollegeiate.
Fountain and Broome both finished at 222, six-over-par to lead their respective teams and finish tied for fifth individually.
Broome, a native of Barrington, R.I., fired rounds of 73-74-75 to pace the Paladins to a second-place finish, edging the third-place Wildcats by five strokes in the 17-team event. Fountain, the 2011 SoCon Champion who hails from Raleigh, N.C., carded a two-under par 70 in round two, which tied for the second-best round of the tournament.
The fifth place finish was Fountain's best this season.
Davidson will next compete at the Seahawk Intercollegiate hosted by UNC Wilmington, which begins Sunday.
