ATHENS, Ga. — Drew Onken and Curtis Chaney posted “B” cut times, and the Davidson College men's swimming and diving team broke three league records in the second day of competition at the CCSA Championships in Gabrielson Natatorium Friday night.
The Wildcat men are in second, 46 points behind the College of Charleston. The Davidson women are in sixth and 75.5 points out of third. The meet concludes Saturday with prelims starting at 10 a.m., and the finals slated for sixth.
The Wildcat men won six events in the session, including both relays with record times. Onken won the 400 IM, breaking his own CCSA record with a “B” cut time of 3:47.38, while Chaney posted a “B” cut time of 1:37.84 in the 200 free to take first.
Geoffrey Peitz took first in the 100 back (48.69), and Will Fox was first in the 100 fly (49.61).
Peitz and Onken teamed with Joe Burquist and Wills Cooper to win the 200 medley relay, setting a CCSA record with a time of 1:29.98. Onken, Ben Stewart-Bates, Dylan Ludwick, and Chaney set a CCSA record with a time of 6:40.75 to win the 800 free relay.
Burquist helped the 'Cats dominate the 100 fly, finishing third (50.15), while David Kerman placed fourth (50.43) and Thomas Bigham finished eighth (51.65).
Ludwick placed third in the 200 free (1:39.88), and Stewart-Bates finished fifth (1:42.51). Spencer Gill took fourth in the 100 breast, touching the wall in 58.12. Ethan Levinson placed sixth in the 400 IM (4:09.19) and seventh in the 100 back (51.67).
In diving action, Tim Keating placed seventh and Nick Taylor was eighth on the 1-meter board.
Kelsi Hobbs paced the Davidson women, placing eighth in the 100 fly (57.19) and ninth in the 100 back (57.64).
Liz Mace was seventh in the 100 fly (57.08), and Meredith Nakano finished 10th in the 100 breast (1:05.12). Lauren Kamperman took 12th in the 200 free (1:53.28), and Mackenzie Robinson finished 14th in the 400 IM (4:33.62).
Hobbs and Mace swam the 200 medley relay with Carolina Vrana and Jean DeOrnellas, and the Wildcats took fifth with a time of 1:46.43. Nakano, Anna Blair Bullock, Mace and Kamperman finished sixth in the 800 free relay with a time of 7:38.41.
