Davidson Men Second, Women Fifth at CCSA Championships

ATHENS, Ga. — The Davidson College men's swimming and diving team sits in second place, and the women are fifth after Day 1 of the CCSA Championships in Gabrielson Natatorium Thursday night.
College of Charleston leads the men's side with 275 points, and the Wildcats have 240. With 106 points, the Davidson women trail Georgia Southern by four and North Florida by 18.
Drew Onken (1:46.69) and Geoffrey Peitz (1:49.03) went 1-2 in the 200 IM and helped the 'Cats to a first-place finish in the 400 medley relay (3:16.92) along with Joe Burquist and Curtis Chaney.
Peitz also swam with Wills Cooper, David Kerman and Brandon Kegley on the 200 free relay team, which took second with a time of 1:21.95.
Dylan Ludwick won the 500 free with a time of 4:25.34, while Chaney was fourth (4:33.50), Will Fox placed sixth (4:41.77) and Ben Stewart-Bates placed eighth (4:46.78).
Cooper (21.02), Kegley (21.18) and Kerman (21.52) finished fourth, fifth and seventh in the 50 free to take home 41 points for the Wildcats.
For the women, diver Kaliya Burton-Akright finished fourth on the 1-meter board, posting a score of 241.90.
Lauren Kamperman placed fifth in the 200 IM with a time of 2:05.32 and swam the 200 free relay, which placed fourth (1:35.37), with Meredith Nakano, Caroline Vrana and Jean DeOrnellas.
Nakano, DeOrnellas, Kelsi Hobbs and Liz Mace took fifth in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:51.19).
Tim Keating placed seventh and Nick Taylor was eighth on the 3-meter board in men's diving.
The CCSA Championships continue Friday with prelims starting at 10 a.m. and the finals slated for 6 p.m.
