DAVIDSON, N.C. – Sophia Aleksandravicius recorded her 34th career double-double with 30 points and 15 rebounds to lead Davidson to a convincing 59-42 victory over High Point in non-conference women's basketball action Wednesday evening at Belk Arena.
After going just 4-of-11 from the floor in the first 20 minutes, Aleksandravicius finished 13-of-24 en route to her second career 30-point contest. With her 13 made field goals, the senior pushed past Hall of Famer Sarah Womack to set the program's all-time made field goals record with 557 and counting.
Aleksandravicius was one point off her career-high she had at Radford last year and the 15 rebounds were five away from her 20-board game vs. Appalachian State, Jan. 15, 2012.
Katrin Chiemeka also added double figures for the Wildcats with 10 points.
Davidson (3-4) shot 54.2 percent after intermission to finish with a 41.8 percent (.418) clip, while finishing with a commanding 52-35 advantage on the glass, including 18 at the offensive end.
The 'Cats won their seventh straight home game, dating back to last year and matching last year's best streak.
The Panthers' Cheyenne Parker charted a double-double of her own with 20 points and 12 boards, while going just 7-of-24 from the field.
In addition to holding High Point (4-5) to just 17.6 percent (6-34) in the first half and 23.5 percent (16-68) overall, Davidson raced out to a 24-7 lead on back-to-back buckets by Aleksandravicius and didn't allow the Panthers closer than 12 the rest of the way.
During its game-changing run, Davidson held the Panthers without a field goal for almost six minutes of action before going to the break up, 28-14.
The Wildcats, who never trailed, stretched their lead to as many as 21 on several occasions.
Despite the loss, High Point forced 27 miscues turning them into 22 points at the other end.
The Wildcats will play their next four on the road beginning with a 2:05 p.m. tip at Miami Saturday afternoon.
GAME NOTES: Davidson has won 18 of its past 20 games at Belk Arena … Aleksandravicius has 21 blocks in the last four games … the senior needs 84 more points and three more rebounds to be the program's all-time leader in both categories … Murray moved closer to 1,000 for her career, needing 113 points.
