SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Davidson outside hitter Caroline Brown was honored by the Southern Conference for the second consecutive season, earning a spot on the all-conference second team as announced by the league on Wednesday.
Brown led the Wildcats in both kills and service aces this season. She racked up a total of 363, averaging 3.59 per set with a career-high of 28 on Oct. 28 at The Citadel. Brown also served up a team-high 31 aces in 2012, ranking third in the SoCon. Defensively, she ranked second on the squad in digs with 400 on the season for 3.96 per set. “This is a great honor for Caroline and the Davidson volleyball program. She is one of the best volleyball players I've had the pleasure to work with and I think this is a recognition of all the hard work she's put in over the past year,” said head coach Chris Willis. “The Southern Conference is loaded with outstanding players and we're thrilled that she has earned the distinction as one of the best.”
Georgia Southern setter Kate Van Dyke was named the Southern Conference Player of the Year, while Eagles head coach Chad Callihan was voted the 2012 Coach of the Year. Chattanooga's Paula Passmore earned Libero of the Year honors, while Furman setter Jo Wilks was honored as the Rayna Matea Taylor Award winner, which honors the league's freshman of the year.
