DAVIDSON, N.C – Despite hitting .219 for one of their best attacking games of the season, the Davidson volleyball team couldn't overcome a Furman offense that was just as hot and fell 3-0 to the Paladins on Saturday evening at Belk Arena.  The Paladins, who hit .271 in the match, took the game with set scores of 27-25, 26-24 and 25-21.

The Wildcats are now 10-15 overall and 6-9 in Southern Conference play with one game remaining in the regular season. They will host Wofford in a 2 p.m. match up on Sunday at Belk Arena. Furman, who sits in third in the SoCon at 10-5, moves to 22-8 on the season.

Caroline Brown and Tindall Sewell led the offense with 15 and 14 kills, respectively. Brown also had 13 digs to notch her 19th double-double of the season. She also finished with three assists and an ace. Sewell led the 'Cats with a .448 attacking percentage, marking the seventh match this season she has hit .400 or better. She also led the blocking effort with a block solo and two block assists and added in four digs.

Ariel Ley had 39 assists in the match in addition to seven digs, a block assists and three kills. Molly Crenshaw was the team leader in digs with 19, and chipped in three assists.

Knocking down eight kills apiece were Megan Chamberlin and Taylor Pisel. Pisel also had a pair of block assists, while Chamberlin added five digs. Anastasia Owen picked up nine digs as well. The Wildcats finished with match with 49 kills and 4.0 team blocks.

Natalie Braun's 13 digs led the Paladins as she recorded a double-double with 16 digs. Chandler Armbrester finished the match with 12 kills and 13 digs for a double-double as well. Christina Dorismond recorded 12 kills and a pair of block assists, while Elle Ross was the leader in digs at 22. Jo Wilks put up 43 assists and Christina Curry had a team-high four block assists as Furman recorded 7.0 team blocks on the day.

Neither team took a clear advantage in the first set, keeping the score tied right up through the 25th point. The Paladins twice took a late lead, only to have the 'Cats battle back to even the score. However, Furman got the 27-25 win on a block by Curry and Dorismond to take a one-set lead.

In the second set it was the Wildcats who attacked at the start, taking a 10-6 advantage on a kill by Sewell. Four straight points from Furman brought them within two at 15-13 before Armbrester served up two points to tie the score at 16-16. A trio of kills from Chamblerin put Davidson in front 22-19, and they would take a 24-20 lead to serve set point on a kill by Brown. But the Paladins notched five straight points to earn the come-from-behind win in the set, 25-24, and take a two-set lead.

With Furman taking a 10-5 lead on a Caroline Adams service ace, it was the Wildcats' turn to rally. A pair of kills by Sewell brought Davidson within two, but the Paladins kept the lead comfortable with a kill from Bruan at 19-15. Furman tallied five of the last six points to picked up their third set win, 25-21, to take the match.
