DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson swimmers and divers will make their return to the pool this weekend as the team kicks off the 2012-13 season at the All-North Carolina Invitational, hosted by N.C. State at the Greensboro Aquatic Center this Friday and Saturday.
FOR THE MEN
Drew Onken is set for his senior season after representing the Wildcats at the NCAA National Championships and the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials. Onken is a two-time Men's CCSA Swimmer of the Year and was the 2012 CCSA Most Outstanding Performer of the Meet. Fellow award winner Dylan Ludwick, the 2012 CCSA Most Outstanding Freshman Performer, also returns for his sophomore season after winning the 500-yard freestyle and 1650-yard freestyle in record fashion at last season's championship meet. Wills Cooper, Will Fox and Brandon Kegley are also expected to shine in their respective events for the 'Cats.
FOR THE WOMEN
Meredith Nakano and Anna Blair Bullock look to build upon stellar rookie seasons in 2012-13. Both posted top times in various events for the 'Cats, and both placed in the top 10 in their respective strokes at the CCSA meet last season. They will combine with talented vets Kelsi Hobbs, who boasted the Wildcats' best time of the season in the 200-yard fly as a junior, and Jean DeOrnellas, who remains one of Davidson's top freestyle swimmers. Kaliya Burton-Akright and Karen Monuszko make their return to the diving board for the 'Cats.
THE COMPETITION
In total, 14 programs will compete at the event. In addition to the 'Cats and Wolfpack, Duke, East Carolina, Gardner-Webb, Wingate, Campbell, Catawba and UNC Asheville will also swim at the meet.
ABOUT THE MEET
The meet will start at 5:30 p.m. on Friday evening and will resume on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. Admission to the Greensboro Aquatic Center is free, but parking will be $5. Live results will be posted on the center's website throughout the day.
