Onken Garners CCSA Accolades

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Just one week into the 2012-13 season, Davidson swimmer Drew Onken has picked up where he left off last season by earning the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association's Men's Swimmer of the Week honor for the week of Oct. 11, as announced by the conference on Thursday.
Onken had a solid effort in his season debut, picking up a win and three additional top-ten finishes in his individual events at the All-North Carolina Collegiate Invitational. The senior from Marietta, Ga., swam a 1:53.27 in the 200-yard individual medley to take the top spot before touching the pads third in the 400-IM with a time of 4:05.88. Onken went on to finish fifth in the 200-yard breaststroke, clocking in at 2:07.67, and was seventh in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 58.46.
In addition to his individual successes, Onken was a member of three Wildcat relays. He helped the 200-yard freestyle relay take fifth at the event with a time of 1:25.78 and was also a member of the eighth-place 400-yard medley relay that swam a 3:31.23. To cap things off, Onken swam a leg on the 'Cats' 200-yard medley relay team that took 12th after touching in 1:37.49.
The Wildcats will head to Greenville, N.C., next weekend for a 1 p.m. dual meet at East Carolina.
