DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson will close out its 2012 home slate this week beginning with a 7 p.m. contest against nationally-ranked Wake Forest Tuesday evening at Alumni Stadium.
Along with tomorrow's matchup being North Meck Soccer Club Night, those planning to attend the game are encouraged to wear RED. Members of the North Meck Soccer Club will receive FREE admission if they wear their RED club jersey.
“Thanks in advance to the big crowd that will be attending the match,” commented Davidson head coach Matt Spear. “The size and enthusiasm of the crowd will definitely help the match shine in intensity and quality.”
Looking to end a two-game skid after winning four straight, the Wildcats enter 4-4-1 overall following a 2-0 setback to Elon Friday.
Valeriy Sviderskiy continues to lead the Wildcats in scoring with four goals, despite playing just over 30 minutes per contest (6 games played). Seniors Brian McGue (3G, 1A) and Andrew DiLallo (3G, 1A) are right behind the freshman with seven total points each.
Ranked 16th in the nation, Wake Forest comes in 6-1-3 on the season after back-to-back 4-0 victories over Appalachian State and Virginia Tech. In addition, the Demon Deacons enter on a five-match unbeaten steak and have only allowed six goals through the first 10 contests.
“Wake Forest plays a very attractive brand of soccer with excellent passing and moving. And they have been flying of late. So our individual and team defending will be need to be sharp and connected.”
Coming off a hat trick in his last outing, Luca Gimenez leads Wake Forest with four goals and two assists. Defensively, goalkeeper Michael Lisch is only allowing 0.55 goals per game, while recording six shutouts.
“We will definitely get our chances to go forward too, so our composure and execution with our scoring opportunities will be paramount,” Spear commented.
Tuesday's meeting marks the 23rd consecutive season the Wildcats and Demon Deacons have met on the soccer field. Wake Forest holds a 25-4-1 record in the all-time series.
Davidson will conclude its home schedule Saturday evening with a 7 p.m. contest against Georgia Southern. Prior to the Homecoming contest, the Wildcats will honor their three seniors, and at halftime the 1992 College Cup Team will be recognized.
