DAVIDSON, N.C. - Seven Wildcats have earned postseason All-Pioneer Football League accolades in a vote by the conference's coaches, and five were named to Academic All-PFL teams as postseason honors rolled in for the Davidson football team.
Receiver Lanny Funsten was named first-team All-America by BeyondSportsNetwork.com and All-PFL by CollegeSportsMadness.com in addition to earning second-team All-PFL from the league.
Offensive lineman Ethan Clark, linebackers Patrick Moynahan and John Behm, defensive back Peter Kidwell, punter Brenton Goodman and return specialist Toms Bernhards-Callahan all earned All-PFL honorable mention kudos.
Behm and Kidwell were named first-team Academic All-PFL, while offensive lineman Joe Cline and defensive lineman Morgan Popham joined them on the team. Moynahan was named second-team Academic All-PFL. Behm was also one of 58 players in FCS football named an Athletic Director's Association Academic All-Star.
Funsten finished the year with 100 receptions, a school record, and became the third player in school history and first since 1972 to collect 1,000 receiving yards in a season (1,107). The junior led the PFL in receptions and yards, ranking third and eighth, respectively, in NCAA FCS football in those categories.
Clark, a senior who helped anchor the offensive line, started all 11 games in 2011 and made 22 starts in his career. Davidson ranked eighth in FCS football in passing offense (303.3 yds/gm) and 59th in total offense (357.1 yds/gm).
Moynahan led Davidson in tackles for the second straight season with 72 hits. The junior recorded 5.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks and recovered a fumble.
Behm posted 37 tackles, including 26 solo hits. The senior posted 5.5 tackles for loss, a sack, three pass breakups, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
Kidwell, a senior safety, had 49 tackles, three interceptions for 15 yards, six pass breakups and a forced fumble.
Goodman averaged 38.2 yards a punt and placed 13 inside the 20-yard line. The senior had six kicks of 50-plus yards, and his best punt traveled 57 yards.
Bernhards-Callahan averaged 11.6 yards a punt return and 19.6 yards a kick return. The junior's 94-yard punt return for touchdown against Marist equaled the school record, set by George Hannen against Wofford in 1969. The return was the first punt return for a touchdown for Davidson since Ryan Hutto returned one 36 yards against Georgetown in 2000.
Cline, a senior offensive lineman, started the first four games of the season and played in all 11 contests. Davidson ranked eighth in FCS football in passing offense (303.3 yds/gm) and 59th in total offense (357.1 yds/gm).
Popham, a senior defensive tackle, collected 18 tackles, two tackles for loss and recovered two fumbles.
