Brown Named SoCon Offensive Player of the Week

DAVIDSON, N.C. — Behind a pair of double-doubles and career highs in kills, digs and blocks, sophomore outside hitter Caroline Brown has been named Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the week of September 6, as selected and announced by the conference office.
Brown matched her career high, set opening weekend against UNC Wilmington, with 19 kills and set a new career high with three blocks in the 'Cats' 3-0 win against UNC Asheville in their opener at the University of South Carolina Invitational Friday afternoon. In the nightcap, she turned in her first double-double of the weekend with 13 kills and a career-high 15 digs against the host Gamecocks.
For a second straight double-double, Brown equaled her career highs the following day with 19 kills and 15 digs in a three-set victory over Gardner-Webb in the tournament finale and earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team for a second straight weekend. She also tallied 11 kills and seven digs at NC Central in the team's midweek match.
Brown, who leads the conference with 4.48 kills per set, finished the week with 62 kills (5.17/set) and 45 digs (3.75/set), while hitting .331, to lead the Wildcats to a 3-1 finish. Sarabeth Peele earned the last SoCon Player of the Week honor for the Wildcats, picking up her second straight on November 11, 2010.
College of Charleston's Emily Shelton was named SoCon Defensive Player of the Week. The junior libero led the Cougars in digs in every match to help her team win the 2011 Georgia State Invitational. She finished the week with 69 digs (5.75/set), including 29 digs against Georgia State.
Western Carolina's Caitlin Piechota earned SoCon Freshman Player of the Week honors. The outside hitter led the Catamounts with 40 kills, hitting double digits in three of the four matches in her collegiate debut at NC?State's Midtown Courtyard Classic. She was also one of two freshman named to the All-Tournament Team.
