
Wildcats Open SoCon Play, Host Furman and Wofford This Week

DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Davidson Wildcat volleyball team opens Southern Conference play this week, hosting Furman and Wofford at Belk Arena.
Davidson (10-3) hosts Furman (7-5) Thursday at 7 p.m. in both team's SoCon opener, and takes on Wofford (10-4) Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
About the Wildcats
Davidson enters SoCon play fresh off winning its own Wildcat Classic this past weekend. The Wildcats swept Coastal Carolina, N.C. A&T and Norfolk State en route to the tournament title and were led by sophomore middle hitter and tournament MVP Tindall Sewell. Sophomore outside hitter Caroline Brown and junior setter Ariel Ley also earned spots on the All-Tournament team.
Brown continues to lead the SoCon in kills (4.49/set), which ranks 17th in the nation. She is also fourth in the league in aces (0.37, 114th nationally) and tenth in digs (3.6, 238th nationally). Sewell is second in the conference with a .449 hitting percentage, the fifth best in the country, and senior middle hitter Madison Benedict ranks eighth (0.329, 122nd nationally). Ley is second in the league with assists (10.95/set, 37th nationally), while junior libero Molly Crenshaw is sixth in the league in digs (4.16/set).
About the Paladins
Furman dropped a pair of matches to ACC opponents at Clemson this past weekend, losing 1-3 to the host Tigers and 0-3 to Georgia Tech. But the Paladins have posted wins over Wisconsin (3-1), Charleston Southern (3-1), Presbyterian (3-0), Florida Gulf Coast (3-1), Morgan State (3-0), Campbell (3-0) and Charlotte (3-0), against losses to Duke (1-3), UCF (0-3), Southern California (0-3).
Furman is led by junior outside hitter Chandler Ambrester, who ranks sixth in the league with 3.22 kills per set. Senior middle blocker Alexis Shaffer and senior libero Carolyn Nicoletti are also among league leaders, ranking 10th and 8th in hitting percentage (.310) and digs (3.88/set), respectively. Furman leads the SoCon in both assists (13.07/set) and digs (16.59/set), and is third in both kills (13.80/set) and blocks (1.95/set).
About the Terriers
Wofford is coming off a 2-1 weekend at the USC Upstate Tournament, defeating the host Spartans, 3-1, and sweeping Charleston Southern for a second time this season. The Terriers also have wins against Kent State (3-0), Arkansas Pine Bluff (3-0), SIU Edwardsville (3-1), Alabama State (3-0), Savannah State (3-0), Stetson (3-1) and NC A&T (3-0). In addition to a 3-0 loss to Gardner-Webb last weekend, Wofford has losses to Western Illinois (0-3), SC State (1-3) and Bethune-Cookman (1-3).
Junior middle blocker Arden Anderson leads the league in blocks (1.39/set) and ranks fourth in the league with a .357 hitting percentage, while sophomore outside hitter Amanda Liguori is second in service aces (0.52/set). As a team, the Terriers are lead the league in both blocks (2.15/set) and service aces (1.96/set) and rank third in hitting percentage (0.250).
