Wildcat W. Soccer Concludes Long Homestand, Battles ECU and UNCW This Weekend

DAVIDSON, N.C. — Playing its longest stretch of home games to open the year since the 2000 season, Davidson wraps up its five-game swing at home with a pair of contests this weekend at Alumni Stadium in women's soccer action.
The Matchup
The Wildcats will seek to close out its homestand in winning fashion with a 7 p.m. contest against East Carolina on Friday, Sept. 2, and then play host to UNC Wilmington on Sunday at 2 p.m.
The All-Time Series
Friday's match vs. ECU will be the third meeting between the two schools. The Pirates hold a 2-0 lead in the series with the last game being played at ECU in 1998, an 8-1 win by the Pirates. UNCW and Davidson have faced each other seven times, with them facing each other recently the last three straight years. The Wildcats trail 5-2, but scored a 2-0 shutout win last year at home.
Scouting the Wildcats
Davidson (1-1-1) went 0-1-1 last weekend in its first-ever meetings against Providence (T, 2-2) and Florida Gulf Coast (L, 1-2) ... the 'Cats pushed their home unbeaten streak to 13 games on Friday, but had the school-record streak halted on Sunday ... Lauren Mihan added to her team-leading goal mark with her third score of the season on Friday ... Mihan ranks in the SoCon top-five in goals, points and shots ... senior defender Sophie Newsom recorded her first career collegiate goal on Sunday vs. the Eagles ... last year vs. UNCW, Kelsey Krueger knocked in her first career goal as a freshman ... six Wildcats this year have tallied their first career collegiate goals ... Davidson is just eight goals away from reaching last year's total of 19 in 20 games ... goalkeeper Jessie Baxa has started all three games ... Davidson's five-game homestand to start the year is the longest since it opened up the 2000 season with 10 straight ... the 'Cats' welcome back eight starters and 17 total letterwinners from last year ... Davison was picked to finish seventh in the SoCon preseason poll.
Scouting the Pirates
East Carolina (2-1) is riding a two-game win streak after taking a 2-0 win vs. UNC Wilmington, Aug. 25 ... the Pirates also scored a 4-1 victory over Old Dominion ... Caty Butler was named Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week this week after tallying both goals against UNCW ... Kimmy Cummings leads the team with three goals along with Butler ... Leah Bagonis paces the team with two assists ... the Pirates are coming off a 9-9-1 season a year ago ... they return 18 letterwinners, including nine starters ... ECU was picked ninth in the Conference USA preseason poll ... Amanda Malkiewicz was a preseason all-league pick ... head coach Rob Donnenwith has guided ECU to six 10-plus win seasons.
Scouting the Seahawks
UNC Wilmington (1-1) dropped a 2-0 game to the Pirates last weekend, but opened the year with a 2-0 shutout win vs. Francis Marion ... Amanda Holmes paces the team with a goal and assist for three points ... goalkeeper Caitlin Hunter has registered 11 saves and owns a 1.00 goals against average ... the Seahawks play at Charlotte on Friday night ... Lindsay Henry was named to the preseason All-Colonial Athletic Association Team ... the Seahawks were picked to finish sixth in the coaches CAA poll ... they welcome back 21 letterwinners and nine starters ... four of its top five scoring threats from the 2010 season return, including junior Stephanie Rose (8 G, 4 A) ... head coach Paul Cairney has totaled 150 career wins.
Next on the Schedule
Davidson hits the road for the first time, going to the Navy Tournament, Sept. 9-11. This will be the third time the Wildcats have gone to this tournament.
