DAVIDSON, N.C. — In her collegiate debut, freshman Julia Singley (Morganton, N.C.) knocked in the go-ahead goal and had two of the Wildcats' eight goals as Davidson rolled to a season-opening 8-1 win over UNC Asheville in women's soccer action on Saturday night in front of a crowd of 1,072 at Alumni Stadium.

The win continued Davidson's school-best home unbeaten streak, which is now at 12 (9-0-3) dating back to the last three home contests of the 2009 campaign.

Singley, who netted her first career goal, and the go-ahead goal, at the 34:52 mark in the first half, was not the only first-year player to find the back of the net. Fellow classmates Becca Fisher (Fredericksburg, Va.), Rachel Stelter (The Woodlands, Texas) and Stephanie Piperno (Harwinton, Conn.) each scored single goals, with Fisher starting the scoring off for Davidson with a strike in the 15th minute of the first half.

Davidson remains at home as it continues its season opening five-game homestand with a pair of contests next weekend. The 'Cats will face Providence on Friday, Aug. 26 at 7 p.m. and then finish out the weekend with a 1 p.m. contest against Florida Gulf Coast on Sunday.

GAME NOTES: The eight goals were the most scored since Davidson blanked The Citadel 12-0 on Oct. 13, 2004 ... those 12 goals remain a single-game record ... Rachael Newmister picked up the Wildcats lone assist on the evening, the fourth of her career ... Davidson improved to 10-13 in season openers and 6-2 under head coach Greg Ashton ... The Wildcats ran their home opener record to 6-2 in the last eight years and 15-8 overall during the program's 23-year history.
