DAVIDSON, N.C. — In the rubber match of the best-of-three series, Matt Ray batted 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI to lead the Monmouth Monarchs to a 4-2 win and the 2011 Jerry Lillis Atlantic Baseball Confederation Collegiate League Championship Cup Sunday afternoon in Colts Neck, N.J.
Ray's two-run double in the sixth inning busted up a scoreless game, and his team tacked on two more in the next inning en route to a championship victory over the top-seeded Toms River Hurricanes.
Ray, who batted .298 and drove in a team-leading 18 RBI during the regular season, was also selected to play in the 2011 ABCCL Annual Dream Makers All-Star Game and Professional Showcase Monday evening at Kean University. He also played in the league's Annual Charity Game over the weekend, with all proceeds benefiting Camp Quality, a summer camp for children suffering from cancer.
