DAVIDSON, N.C. — Left fielder Forrest Brandt was named to the 2011 Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America Team by Collegiate Baseball newspaper Wednesday afternoon, marking the second straight season a Davidson Wildcat baseball player has earned the honor.
Brandt, who becomes the program's fourth freshman All-American, was named to the team after starting all 48 games in left field and batting .300, to go along with 15 doubles, a triple, a home run, eight stolen bases and 21 RBI. He was previously named to the 2011 All-SoCon Freshman Team, joining Andrew Barna and Drew Gadaire as Wildcats who have earned the honor.
Brandt is the fourth freshman All-American in Davidson history, joining Barna, shortstop Robert Eenhoorn (Baseball America, 1990) and outfielder Billy Masse (Baseball America, 1985). Barna was named to the Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-America Team last season.
The team is headed by Collegiate Baseball's Freshman Pitcher of The Year RHP Corey Knebel of Texas (17 saves, 1.23 ERA, 57 strikeouts and 12 walks in 51 1/3 innings) and Freshman Player of The Year OF Daniel Aldrich, College of Charleston (.347, 22 homers, 17 doubles and 73 RBI).
