DAVIDSON, N.C. — Coming off an outstanding sophomore campaign, Sophia Aleksandravicius (Pound Ridge, N.Y.) added to her postseason accolades with a spot on the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) University Division All-State Women's Basketball First Team as announced today by the organization.
It marks the sixth year in a row Davidson has placed at least one player on either the first or second team, and it's the second season in a row Aleksandravicius has been named to one of the two five-member teams. Last year, she earned a spot on the second team with Alex Thompson.
The 6-foot-4 sophomore was named to both the Southern Conference Coaches and Media First Teams after pacing the Wildcats in scoring and rebounding. A force down low in the paint all year, Aleksandravicius was third in the league in scoring at 16.5 and second in rebounding with an even nine-board average.
Named to the SoCon All-Freshman Team last year, Aleksandravicius rewrote the Wildcat record books this year in several categories. She set the single-game (7), single-season (95) and career (144) records in blocks, while also setting the single-season mark in made field goals (192) and free throws (123). Her 511 points were the most scored in a single-season, surpassing Jennifer O'Brien's 488 total set in the 1999-00 season.
Her 95 blocks on the season and 3.1 average per game ranked first in the SoCon and ninth nationally overall.
Aleksandravicius registered eight double-doubles this season, while scoring in double figures 27 times. She reached the 20-point mark nine times and had a career-best 31-point outing in a win vs. Radford, Dec. 4.
The sophomore helped the Wildcats to their first SoCon Tournament win since 2007 with a 23-point, nine-rebound outing vs. College of Charleston in a first-round 69-53 win. In the game, Aleksandravicius tied a Wildcat single-game tournament record with four blocks, while matching a program-best with 12 total free throws in two games at the tournament.
The last eight games of the regular season saw her haul in 10-plus rebounds in seven of those games, including a career-high tying 16 vs. Georgia Southern. She also has picked up five of her eight double-doubles during that span.
