DAVIDSON, N.C. — After winning a second straight CCSA Championship, the Davidson Wildcat men's swimming and diving team skyrocketed 11 spots up to 24th in the final 2011 CollegeSwimming.com Mid-Major Poll.
Previously ranked 35th, the Wildcat men jumped up to 24th with 228.1 points. The Wildcat women, runners-up at the 2011 CCSA Championships, finished just outside the voting, with 241.7 points.
Navy, winners of the Patriot League, claimed their third straight men's title, followed by the Princeton men, champions of the 2005-06 and 2006-07 seasons.
Ivy League champion Princeton finished atop the final poll on the women's side for a second straight seasoning to be named the CollegeSwimming.com Mid-Major Dual Meet Champions. Towson moved ahead of previously top-ranked Miami (Ohio) for second.
In addition to topping the Mid-Major rankings, Princeton and Navy also caught the attention of voters. Both teams garnered votes in the CSCAA/TYR Division I Dual-Meet Poll.
The Mid-Major rankings use an objective point system to compare teams' relative strength in a traditional dual meet lineup as submitted by participating teams. The ranking is available to those institutions that a) are not members of a BCS conference or Mountain West Conference, or b) provide fewer than one-half of the allowable scholarships under the NCAA rules. Teams must have submitted entries in at least two polling periods to be eligible for the final ranking.
