GREENVILLE, S.C. – Sophomore John Skeadas fired a three-under-par 69 to lead the Davidson men's golf team after the first round of competition in the 42nd Annual Furman Intercollegiate Friday at Furman University Golf Club.
As a team, the Wildcats sit tied for 12th in the 22-team field at 304. Skeadas was the lone 'Cat to finish the day under par on the par-72, 6,994-yard course.
Freshman Sam Echikson fired a 77 (t-63rd place) while classmate Richard Fountain and junior Jackson Taylor both shot 79 to place in a tie for 93rd for the day.
Kennesaw State posted a six-under par 282 to hold a three-stroke lead and Purdue's William Sjaichudin fired a seven-under 65 to grab the individual lead during the opening round.
Second round play is slated to begin on Saturday at 8 a.m. with final round action scheduled for Sunday morning.
