Golf Improves In Second Round of Furman Intercollegiate

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Davidson sophomore John Skeadas remains in the top-10 Saturday after two rounds of the 42nd Annual Furman Intercollegiate at the Furman University Golf Club.
As a team, Davidson improved on their first-round 304 with a second-round 295 to place in a tie for 11th place in the 22-team field with conference foe Wofford.
Skeadas and senior Jackson Taylor led the Wildcats on the par-72, 6,994-yard course Saturday with one-over-par 73's. Skeadas moved down from a tie for fourth after firing a three-under 69 Friday to 10th at 142. Taylor sits in a tie for 68th (79+73=152).
Freshman Sam Echikson is the second-ranked 'Cat overall in a tie for 60th-place at 151 (77+74). Senior Bobby Urso bounced back from a tough first round with a three-over par 75. He is tied with freshman Richard Fountain at 156.
The Virginia Tech Hokies posted a one-under par 287 on Saturday to pull into a first place tie with Kennesaw State at four-under 572.
Garland Green fired a four-under 72 to help the Hokies (-4) pull even with Owls (-4) while Ben Greene led Kennesaw State to a second round 290 with a two-under par 70. Clemson (E) is in third place just four strokes behind the leaders with East Carolina (+3) and Purdue (+7) rounding out the top five. Gardner-Webb and Furman (+8) are tied for sixth place after 36 holes.
First round leader William Sjaichudin (65-69=134) of Purdue maintained the tournament lead with a three-under par 69 on Saturday to move to 10-under for the weekend. East Carolina's Harold Varner (67-70=137) is three strokes back in second place with Green (71-68=139) holding third place.
Final round action is slated to tee-off on Sunday at 8 a.m. Furman will tee-off of No. 10 beginning at noon while the tournament leaders will tee-off from No. 1 beginning at 1:10 p.m.
