DAVIDSON, N.C. - Seven Davidson players have been named to the Academic All-Pioneer Football League Team, the conference announced today.
Mark Hanabury and Zenus Wilson were named to the first team on offense, while Daniel Astrop, Peter Kidwell and Morgan Popham were named to the first team on defense. John Behm and Michael Blanchard earned second-team honors.
Hanabury caught 31 passes for 252 yards and a touchdown in eight games as injuries kept him out of the first three contests. The senior receiver finished his career with 99 catches for 969 yards in 34 games.
Wilson, who missed two games with an injury, started eight of the nine he played in and anchored the offensive line, earning All-PFL Honorable Mention honors. The senior started 20 contests in his career.
Astrop earned All-PFL Honorable Mention honors for the second straight season after registering 62 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, four pass breakups and a fumble recovery. The senior finished his career with 196 stops, 18 tackles for loss, eight sacks and 11 pass breakups.
Kidwell, a junior defensive back who earned second-team All-PFL?honors in 2010 and All-PFL Honorable Mention in 2009, recorded 68 tackles, six tackles for loss, two interceptions, five pass breakups and a blocked kick. He was fourth in the league in tackles by a defensive back.
Popham was named second-team all-league after starting all 11 games and posting 42 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, two sacks, a pass breakup and a blocked kick. The junior ranked 11th in the league in tackles by a defensive lineman and tied for 13th in tackles for loss.
A junior outside linebacker and second-team All-PFL?selection, Behm ranked second on the team in tackles with 69 and posted 11.5 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, an interception, four pass breakups and two fumble recoveries. He ranked 15th in the league in tackles and tied for ninth in tackles for loss.
Blanchard caught 29 passes for 252 yards and three touchdowns and rushed nine times for 30 yards in 11 games. The senior tight end caught 34 career passes for 300 yards and four TDs in 32 contests.
PFL athletic directors established the Academic All-PFL teams in 1993 as a way to recognize the league's outstanding student-athletes. To be nominated for the honor, the student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.00 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) for his career. The team is selected by the league's sports information directors.
