DAVIDSON, N.C. — Coming off their second straight CCSA Championships, the Davidson men's swimming and diving team is ranked number one in improvement and number three overall in the latest Collegeswimming.com Avidasports Performance Rankings.
The Avidasports Performance Rankings weigh two separate metrics: performance as measured by the team's relative ranking to other collegiate programs, and improvement as compared to its own previous best times.
The Florida men and women led the overall rankings for Division I programs while the inaugural Sunshine State Conference Championship produced the top-ranked Division II programs. UW-LaCrosse (women) and UW-Eau Claire (men) lead the Division III rankings.
In the performance metric, the Southeastern Conference proved to be the fastest conference in that nation, with the Georgia women edging the Florida women. Auburn and Florida finished in the top two spots on the men's side with average swims among the top 1 percent of all collegiate swims. All six leaders, across Division I, II and III, in the performance category won their respective conference championships.
The Wildcat men topped the second half of the performance metric, which measures improvement by using a team's previous best times as a gauge of performance. On the women's side, Colgate led the Division I teams, and both teams won their conference championships, the CCSA and Patriot League, respectively. Three of six leaders in the improvement categories were led by the conference's Coach of the Year, including Davidson's John Young.
