BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Gardner-Webb won four of the seven contested matches en route to a 31-9 victory over Davidson in non-conference wrestling action Wednesday night in Paul Porter Arena.
Seniors Alex Radsky (133 pounds) and Vitaly Radsky (141) and sophomore Chris Cirenza (174) earned the lone decisions in Davidson's (5-12) favor. The Wildcats spotted Gardner-Webb (6-13-1) 18 points after forfeiting the 157-, 165- and 197-pound bouts.
Ryan Medved was the only wrestler to score bonus points on the day, earning a major decision in the Runnin' Bulldogs favor at 149 pounds.
Davidson's Matt Zarth was on the short end of a one-point decision to start the match at 125 pounds, but the Radsky twins earned a pair of decisions to give Davidson a 6-3 lead. Alex Radsky defeated Alex Hamm, 7-2, while Vitaly Radsky took a 5-4 decision over Richie Spicel.
It was the only lead Davidson would hold, as Gardner-Webb went on to take all but one of the remaining matches. Cirenza defeated Erin O'Dell, 5-3, for the 'Cats' last victory. Senior heavyweight Charlie Wolff nearly earned another win for Davidson, but yielded to Travis Porter, 3-1 in overtime.
Davidson will host Appalachian State in the regular season finale Sunday at 2 p.m. in Belk Arena.
