Vitaly Radsky’s Upset Bid Thwarted; Wrestling Downed by Chattanooga

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Senior Charlie Wolff earned the lone win for Davidson wrestling as Chattanooga defeated the Wildcats, 41-3 in Southern Conference wrestling action Sunday afternoon in Maclellan Gym.
Davidson (5-11, 0-4 SoCon) senior Vitaly Radsky nearly pulled off the upset of the day at 141 pounds, suffering a 5-4 defeat to No. 9 Cody Cleveland, who improved to 10-0 for the year. Cleveland earned an escape to take the decision in the third period after Radsky tied the match at 4-4 with an early third-period takedown. Radsky was down 3-2 entering the final frame after yielding a first-period takedown and allowing a second period escape after scoring a takedown of his own.
Davidson spotted Chattanooga (10-9, 4-0 SoCon) 18 points in the first five matches, as the 'Cats forfeited at 157, 165 and 197 pounds. Chattanooga added nine points for a 24-0 lead with a decision at 174 pounds and a pin at 184 pounds by Jason McCroskey, who has been nationally ranked at times this season.
Wolff answered with a 4-1 overtime decision for Davidson at heavyweight over Robert Prigmore. The bout was tied at 1-1, but Wolff scored an escape and takedown in the second tiebreaker period for the win.
The Mocs went on to take the remaining bouts, scoring a major decision at 125 pounds, decisions at 133 and 141 pounds and another major decision at 149 pounds to conclude the meet.
Two dual meets remain for the Wildcats before the Southern Conference Championships. Davidson will hit the road again to take on Gardner-Webb (Feb. 16). The regular season concludes Sunday, Feb. 20 in Belk Arena against SoCon foe Appalachian State.
Notes: The losses by Vitaly and Alex Radsky ended their respective six- and five-match winning streaks … Scott Ray's defeat at 149 pounds ended a five-match winning streak.
