CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Chattanooga drained 14 shots from downtown and went on to hit 53.3 percent of its shots overall in rolling past Davidson, 91-70, on Saturday evening in women's basketball action at McKenzie Arena.
The Mocs (13-12, 10-6 SoCon) hit seven shots apiece in both halves from behind the arc and canned 20-of-32 shots overall in the second half for 62.5 percent in sweeping the season-series. Davidson (11-14, 6-10 SoCon) dropped its fourth straight on the road and fell for the fourth time in the last five games.
Five Mocs clipped the double-digit mark in points, with Bailey Dewart and Whitney Hood each pouring in 16 points. Dewart, who was 4-for-8 from three-land, earned a double-double with 16 rebounds as the Wildcats were out-boarded 40-27. UTC had 20 second-chance points off their 12 offensive rebounds.
Sophia Aleksandravicius (Pound Ridge, N.Y.) had her eighth 20-point outing of the season, going for a game-high 25 on 10-of-16 shooting. She scored 16 of her points in the second half when Davidson shot 15-of-30 for a 50-percent clip. The Wildcats finished shooting 45.3 percent for the game, their best shooting night since nailing 50 percent of its shots at Wofford, Jan. 22.
Freshman Laura Murray (Harrisburg, Pa.) was the other 'Cat to hit for double figures, getting all 10 of her points in the first half.
Barbara Sitton (Richmond, Va.) had a season-high eight points on 4-of-7 shooting, while Chloe Woodington (San Antonio, Texas) matched her season-best with nine points off the bench.
Chattanooga set the tone early for its hot three-point shooting, hitting three consecutive treys, two of them by Dewart, to open the game for a 9-2 lead and Davidson was forced to burn a timeout with 17:30 on the clock.
Murray and Aleksandravicius did their part in helping keep the 'Cats close throughout the first half. Murray canned a pair of triples on her way to her 10 first-half points and Aleksandravicius would net the last nine Wildcat points of the half, including converting a three-point play that brought Davidson to within three, 34-31, with 1:31 left.
But, that was as close as the Wildcats would get as Chattanooga caught fire to start the new period. Leading 37-31 coming out of the break, the Mocs went on a 19-8 run through the first five minutes, getting three three-pointers from Kylie Lambert during the span, and broke open the game at 56-39.
Another Dewart shot from three-land later made it 67-47 with under 12 minutes to go and Davidson trailed by as many as 26-points in suffering its second biggest loss of the season.
Davidson closes out its last regular season road contest at Samford on Monday with tipoff set for 8 p.m. (EST).
