KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Davidson senior defender Greg Macnamara was recognized as one of the top players in the competitive South Region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Friday as the organization named him to the NSCAA All-South Region third team for Division I.
Macnamara was previously named to the All-Southern Conference first team and the Capital One Academic All-America third team following a strong senior campaign. The Arlington, Va. native anchored Davidson's back line as a center back and led the unit to nine shutouts, just one shy of the team record of 10 set in 2003. Two of the shutouts were to ranked opponents in No. 19 Denver and No. 2 North Carolina. Macnamara also chipped in offensively, scoring the game-winning goal against Campbell and assisting on the game-tying goal against College of Charleston that allowed the 'Cats to host their SoCon quarterfinal game.

“What makes this so impressive is that there are so many big-time players and programs in the South Region," said Davidson head coach Matt Spear. "For Greg to shine as a star with some ACC schools and otherwise is awesome, and it underlines his level of performance, impact in our program's growth, and respect by the other coaches that vote.”
Macanamara is the 22nd different Davidson player to earn the honor and the third in the past three seasons. Charlie Reiter and Alex Caskey were both selected in 2009 and Caskey earned a second nod in 2010.
A total of eight student-athletes from SoCon institutions earned places on the All-South Region teams.
