Wildcat Swimming Grabs a Pair CCSA Swimmer of the Week Honors

DAVIDSON, N.C. — For the second time this year, the Davidson men's and women's swimming teams had a swimmer/diver of the week on the same week when Drew Onken (Marietta, Ga.) for the men and Meredith Nakano (Alpharetta, Ga.) for the women were honored today by the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association for meets competed, Nov. 28-Dec. 4.
The weekly award for Onken was his third of the season and sixth overall for the men. Nakano became the first swimmer on the women's side this year, while Kaliya Burton-Akright (Tampa, Fla.) was the diver of the week, Nov. 3.
The junior Onken received six top-three finishes last week at the Total Performance Invitational at Kenyon College. In the 400-yard IM, he set a new pool and meet record en route to a first-place finish with a time of 3:53.35. The junior also swam the last leg of the 800-yard freestyle relay that set a CCSA and Davidson College record, clocking in at 6:42.93. Onken garnered second-place individual finishes in the 100-yard breaststroke (56.64), 200-yard backstroke (1:50.96), 200-yard breaststroke (2:02.23) and 200-yard IM (1:51.03). He also swam on the 200-yard and 400-yard medley relay teams that placed third.
For the Wildcat women, Nakano, a freshman, led them to a fourth-place team finish as she placed second in the 200-yard IM (2:06.80), third in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:20.00) and fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:05.26) last week at the Total Performance Invitational at Kenyon College. She also swam on the 400-yard freestyle relay team which placed third overall, and the 400-yard medley relay team which finished in fourth-place.
Davidson is next in the pool at home for a Senior Day meet against Gardner-Webb, Dec. 21, at 1 p.m.
