
Volleyball to Meet North Division Champion Samford in SoCon First Round Saturday

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Davidson volleyball team is seeded fourth in the South Division and will face North Division regular season champion Samford in the first round of the Southern Conference Volleyball Championship Saturday at 7 p.m. in the Pete Hanna Center at Samford University, the league office announced Monday.
Tournament host Samford (26-4) went 13-3 in conference play this season to earn the top seed in the North. The Wildcats (15-14, 5-11) hosted Samford in the lone meeting between the two teams this season, and Samford earned a 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-23) victory.
The Bulldogs lost their regular season finale to the North Division's second seed, Appalachian State (20-10, 12-4), which ended a 12-game winning streak. Davidson defeated Appalachian State in Boone, 3-2, in their first match of November, but enters the tournament on a three-game losing streak.
The winner of the Samford-Davidson match will take on the winner of the No. 2S Furman and No. 3N Western Carolina match in the semifinals Sunday at 5:30 p.m.
College of Charleston earned the top seed in the South Division after going 14-2 in conference play.
The tournament winner earns the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Volleyball Championships. The championship match will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
